Something happened to me today that has not happened to me in over four years.
I got asked out.
(Yes, no one has asked me out in over four years besides Matthew. Yes, I know that's kind of sad.)
The thing is, I should have seen it coming. But I didn't.
This guy who works for UK as a janitor started talking to me last week. He said he had seen me a lot around campus, and started small talk about my studies. He walked away, came back, and started asking me about my hobbies. When my supervisor finally got there (I had been sitting outside our meeting room for supervision) he asked for my name and said "it was nice meeting you sweetie." I talked to my supervisor about it, and she said last semester he didn't talk to anyone but lately has been more talkative. I thought maybe he was just being social. How vain would it have been of me to assume he was interested.
Apparently it would not have been vain at all.
So today I saw him again and we had the usual small talk about our weekends. He went back to cleaning and I was playing sudoku on my phone waiting for my supervisor to arrive. Next thing I know he comes up to me. He asked my name again to be sure he remembered it from last time, then asked me to a dance this weekend. Eeeeekkkk!!!!!
I tried to be as polite as I could. I told him I was flattered that he asked, but I'm engaged. I also told him that I appreciated him asking me. I know how hard it is to do that. He just said that was cool and walked away. I really hoped I handled it the right way. I wasn't trying to lead him on or anything, I was just being nice. I never mind making new friends, and he seems nice. If I weren't with Matthew I probably would have said yes. Ugh, I totally didn't know what to do! What is even worse is that I'm looking a hot mess today (emphasis on the mess part, not the hot... well, apparently not but you get the idea). My hair is pulled back, I have absolutely no makeup on, and I was in a hoodie. I was up so late last night I didn't even bother showering this morning (TMI I know... I'll get to it later today I promise!).
So there you go. You are probably laughing just like Matthew did. I really hope I didn't hurt his feelings though. What do you think? Would you have handled it differently?
