First day

First, I want to let you know that Matthew is doing MUCH better. He can actually talk to me now to where I can understand him, and he isn't hurting as much (just a little sore still). His cheeks are starting to puff up too, but the dentist said that would be at its worst on day three. He has basically stayed in bed sleeping since we got home yesterday, but I think it is exactly what he needs. I'm going to try to get him up this afternoon to eat something and probably take a shower. It will make him feel better!

So today was my first day as a teacher at UK! Well, a teaching assistant, but whatevs. I have my own lab to teach, and during that lab I get to show the poor unsuspecting undergrads how to write research papers and proposals in APA style. It will be a pain to grade everything, but it will be excellent experience. My class today was just to go over the syllabus and do introductions. It lasted approximately 15 minutes.... oops. They were not a talkative bunch and didn't ask questions. I even did an icebreaker, but that went really fast too. I don't think they minded too much though haha and I was happy to get home early to look after Matthew.

Oh yeah, on my walk on campus back to my car, I saw this creature scurrying across the lawn...


Yep. I saw an opposum on campus in broad daylight. I thought they were nocturnal? Of course the one I saw was real... this one happens to be a Webkinz, which apparently the only place you can find a Webkinz opposum is at Cracker Barrel. How do I know this you ask? Because I bought one. Yep. I bought a stuffed opposum at Cracker Barrel. For my dad. It's still hanging by its tail from the ceiling fan in his living room. Don't believe me? Here's proof:


And don't ask me why I bought my dad an opposum. Sometimes, it's just better not to know...

If you don't understand the title of this post, just give it a few minutes. Hopefully it will sink in very very soon :)

The university hosts a ton of events every year in an attempt to get students involved and socializing. Most of the time, I'm not interested. Most is definitely the keyword here. I just found out today that there will be a concert in December... If you recognized the title, then you know what I'm about to say.......

Boyz II Men!!! Are coming to campus!!! In December!!! For like, $40 for the best seats, $35 for the rest. Not too shabby :)

So now I'm texting and calling trying to find SOMEONE to go with me! Matthew doesn't like R&B type music, but he would go if I asked him to, but I don't want to do that to him... Any ideas?

As a sidenote, I wanted to post a video (of course) for you viewing/listening pleasure of the song I was referring to. After finding and watching said video and seeing how old school it is, I laughed then realized you all will probably think I'm a total dork... but hey, it wouldn't be the first time :)

Thirsty Thursday

OK, so my Thursday isn't exactly what most (or maybe all...) would consider "Thirsty Thursday." I have, however, been quite thirsty all day, but I'm sure that has nothing to do with the day of the week. Anyway, My day was pretty calm. I came on campus this morning early to study with Amanda. I got coffee (yeah, I know...) and actually drank most of it. It was the pumpkin spice latte, and it was actually pretty decent. I don't really like coffee, but the flavors were nice together. I bought a studyguide for my developmental class. At first I thought I was going to have to wait a week for it because they didn't have any left, but they split a package (the book and the study guide together) for me so I wouldn't have to wait. Also, Amanda let me borrow "Nim's Island" so Matthew and I are getting ready to watch it since we haven't seen it yet. Other than all of that, I found out that I am going to have to shock people in the lab, and also that I may have been responsible for a HUGE mistake in the lab. After thinking about it, I have come to the conclusion that it was not my fault, so that makes me feel a little better.

I realize this message is completely random. I have been busy lately, and am trying to get back into blogging because it makes me feel better. So sorry again lol

Victory is mine!

So I have been stressing out practically all weekend. I had a test and a paper due today, and just couldn't really find the time or will power for either of them. After staying up late last night, and using my first class to study for my test, I have completed both. My test was a lot easier than I thought it would be, and my professor put the answer keys outside the door so we could look at them after we turned our test in. I only missed two, which gives me a 96 on the test! How very exciting!!! I also turned my paper in. I feel about 20 pounds lighter now! I still have a test tomorrow, but it is all I have so I can focus solely on it.

On a different note, Amanda and I witnessed something quite interesting today. We were walking to the student center for lunch when we noticed a group of maintenance guys standing around with a water hose. We thought they were watering flowers, until we got a little closer. They were watering.... are you ready for it?.... a sign. Apparently it was thirsty.... My tuition money is going to watering a post!

Last but not least, it is Wednesday so therefore I have the crime report. There were exactly 10 cases of alcohol intoxication and/or drug/marijuana use. There were also 7 cases of theft. What really got me this week was two cases of mulch fires, and once attempted fire. My guess is that a careless smoker is to blame for the mulch fires (but two in one week? How weird is that?) and an attempted fire from the bus shelter at K Lot (I guess the people were cold...... in 85 degree weather????).

This week so far

I have been so busy. I know it's only Tuesday but I feel like it should be the weekend again! I'm not quite sure what I have gotten myself into this semester. I had my first exam today (which stunk) and I have now had two miserable failures with trying to find a work study. Both of my labs are full of things to do. For one I have so much stuff that I have to do most of it outside of the lab! I have also gotten more exercise these past two weeks than I think I got all summer.....

Anyway, Matthew had minor surgery on his toes yesterday. They were really hurting him last night, but today he hasn't even had to take any medicine! I think we are going to campus tonight to see Ironman for $1. Should be fun lol.

Crime Report

Every week, the Kernel publishes the weekly crime report. I always try to check for it because I have encountered some interesting "crimes" through the past three years. This week was definitely not the best I've seen, but there were a couple of goods ones so I decided to share. Enjoy! :D

• Sept. 1: Sexual activity reported on Rose Street. OK, so Amanda and I were thinking about the possible scenarios for this. I will let you decide, but we think it may have involved a vehicle and one of the parking "dips" across from chem-phys.....
  
• Sept. 1: Theft of perfume from Smith Hall. First off, who reports stolen perfume? It must have been expensive... I can imagine someone calling the police "Help! Someone stole my Obsession knock-off I bought at Wal-mart for $5!!!" hahaha Anyway, it is just an interesting thing to report. And it's just the perfume... nothing else. It had to have been someone that had been in the room before. Who knows.

I know these are not particularly hilarious, but I will try to find some really good ones and post them. Last year we had anything from the regular marijuana use, to "man being chased by grandmother in wheelchair in front of UK Clinic." (and yes, I am being totally serious about that last one.)

Soaked

I didn't check the weather this morning.... I always checked the weather last semester before class.... now I remember why. After leaving my 10 o'clock class this morning, I came down the stairs only to look out the window and see what appeared to be a waterfall of rain. It wasn't a light drizzle, or even a steady rain that is manageable... no.... it was a drenching rain. And better yet, I had to walk across campus from CB to Kastle Hall for a class at 11. It was so bad that halfway there I had to take my glasses off because I couldn't see out of them! I got to class only to see (just barely... still no glasses at this point lol) Amanda with a big grin on her face. She had been in Kastle alllll day long... and she brought her umbrella... figures. My clothes are still lightly damp and there is no hope for my hair at all....
